Please join the Armed Conflict and Civilian Protection Initiative for a talk by Alain Werner, international human rights lawyer and Director of Civitas Maxima. Mr. Werner will speak about the intricacies of universal jurisdiction and its application in the pursuit of holding former alleged war criminals accountable.

Mr. Werner was part of the prosecution team in the trial of former Liberian president Charles Taylor; he also represented victims during the trial of Hissène Habré and the first Khmer Rouge trial. Civitas Maxima, a Swiss-based NGO, is one of the leading organisations to use universal jurisdiction when possible to pursue justice and redress for victims of grave international crimes in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ivory Coast.

Professor of Practice Alex Whiting will moderate a Q&A with Werner following his talk.

Co-sponsored by the Human Rights Program and the Armed Conflict and Civilian Protection Initiative.
