When is a liberal state justified in restricting immigration and access to citizenship in order to protect its constitutional identity? The changing patterns of global migration have initiated a new form of “majority nationalism” in the West. Please join us for a talk with Prof. Liav Orgad, Fellow in Residence at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics, Harvard University, who will discuss the role that culture plays in shaping Western immigration policy, the connection between the refugee crisis and demographobia, and the paradox of protecting liberal values by violating those very values. In addition to being a Fellow with the Safra Center, Prof. Orgad is also Marie Curie Fellow at the Freie Universität Berlin, and Associate Professor at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, Israel.
